The 5 Best Wedding Venues in Chicago

Ryan

Chicago is a wedding city in the truest sense — the architecture alone has been carrying our establishing shots for years. From the industrial loft spaces in the West Loop to the gilded ballrooms on Michigan Avenue, the city offers a kind of variety you don't find in many places: you can throw a modern minimalist wedding, a 1920s-style black-tie affair, or a backyard-feeling outdoor reception, all within the same three neighborhoods.

Below are five of our favorite Chicago wedding venues, picked after years of filming receptions, ceremonies, and after-parties across the city. They're listed in no particular order — each one offers something different.

1. The Drake Hotel | Chicago, IL

The Drake is the grand-dame Chicago wedding venue, and for good reason. Built in 1920, its Grand Ballroom and Gold Coast Room still feel like a black-and-white movie set — coffered ceilings, marble columns, the works. It's not a small venue (you'll want 150+ guests to make the room feel right), but if you're after a classic, gilded Chicago wedding, very little touches it.

2. Bridgeport Art Center | Chicago, IL

For couples who want the industrial-loft Chicago wedding without giving up natural light, Bridgeport Art Center is the move. The Skyline Loft sits on the top floor with floor-to-ceiling east-facing windows that frame the downtown skyline at golden hour — one of the best establishing-shot opportunities in the city. The space holds about 200 seated, has its own catering kitchen, and feels distinctly Chicago without trying too hard.

3. Salvage One | Chicago, IL

Salvage One is the most photogenic wedding venue in Chicago, full stop. Four floors of curated antique furniture, taxidermy, vintage signs, and reclaimed architectural pieces — every corner of the building is a set. It's not for everyone (some couples find it too maximalist) but if you want a wedding film that feels like a Wes Anderson short, this is the venue. Capacity tops out around 150 seated.

4. Galleria Marchetti | Chicago, IL

Galleria Marchetti is the rare Chicago venue with a true outdoor courtyard option — a 7,000-square-foot Italian-style piazza with a retractable glass roof. It's gorgeous for ceremonies, easy on lighting for evening receptions, and the in-house catering is from one of the better Italian operations in the city. Best for couples who want flexibility between indoor and outdoor without going to the suburbs.

5. The Geraghty | Chicago, IL

The Geraghty is the biggest swing on this list — a 35,000-square-foot industrial space in the South Loop that you build from scratch. It's a blank canvas, which means you can do nearly anything (we've filmed weddings here that looked like art galleries, supper clubs, and Vegas nightclubs all in the same year). Not the easiest venue to plan around, but if you have a strong designer or planner, it's hard to beat for sheer creative control.

Choosing the right Chicago wedding venue

Each of the venues above shoots well on camera, but they suit very different kinds of weddings. The Drake is for classic. Bridgeport is for industrial-with-a-view. Salvage One is for moody and curated. Galleria Marchetti is for indoor-outdoor flexibility. The Geraghty is for ambitious creative direction. As you tour each one, picture the film of your wedding day playing through it — the venues that already feel like the wedding you're imagining will be the ones that film the best.

Contact Shutter and Sound for more information regarding these Chicago wedding venues and our Chicago wedding videography packages. We've filmed at four of the five venues above and would be happy to walk you through what to expect on a wedding day at each of them.
