How a Washington, D.C. Wedding Day Unfolds

  1. i.

    Getting ready

We arrive an hour into the morning, already moving slow. Detail flatlays, the dress, the rings, the light coming through the curtains. Quiet enough that no one notices us.

  2. ii.

    First look & portraits

Tucked away at one of D.C.'s quieter corners — the Tidal Basin, an alleyway in Georgetown, the courtyard at a Cathedral side-chapel. Twenty minutes, no rush.

  3. iii.

    Ceremony

We shoot from the aisle, the back, the side, and one frame from the choir loft if there is one. We stay invisible. Family photos run efficiently — list-driven — right after.

  4. iv.

    Reception

Toasts, dances, cake. We stay through the last sparkler. You'll get every plated dinner, every laugh, every quiet moment between the two of you between events.

  5. v.

    Delivery

A tightly-curated 400-800 image gallery, hand-edited, delivered within 8 weeks. Print release included. Albums and frames available by request.

Where we shoot

Popular wedding photography venues in Washington, D.C.

A short list of Washington, D.C.-area venues we know well. We've curated these for the photographer's eye — light, ceremony spots, where to put the couple for portraits. We shoot many more across the region; ask us about yours.

  1. Hillwood Estate — wedding photography venue, Washington DC

    Hillwood Estate

Northwest D.C. Marjorie Merriweather Post mansion, Japanese garden, French parterre. We shoot first looks at the Japanese garden bridge and ceremonies on the terrace overlooking the Potomac. The afternoon light through the cherry blossoms in April is some of the best in the city.

  2. Dumbarton House — wedding photography venue, Washington DC

    Dumbarton House

Georgetown. Federal-period brick mansion, formal garden. We shoot first looks in the front parlor and ceremonies on the rear terrace. Reception in the music room with original 1799 architecture — we shoot candids without flash, the existing chandelier reads warm and stable.

  3. Meridian House — wedding photography venue, Washington DC

    Meridian House

Meridian Hill. 1920 French Renaissance mansion, formal garden, Bois de Boulogne courtyard. We shoot ceremony in the Linden Allée (consistent dappled light from 3pm to 6pm) and portraits in the Drawing Room — the light through the floor-to-ceiling windows is some of the cleanest in northwest D.C.

  4. Long View Gallery — wedding photography venue, Washington DC

    Long View Gallery

Logan Circle. 7,000-square-foot industrial gallery, exposed brick, white walls, twelve-foot ceilings. For couples who want a modern editorial backdrop — we shoot ceremony with the couple framed against the largest blank wall and reception in the same room without changeover.

  5. Carnegie Institution for Science — wedding photography venue, Washington DC

    Carnegie Institution for Science

Dupont Circle. 1909 Beaux-Arts limestone building, original auditorium, garden courtyard. We shoot ceremony in the auditorium (original 1909 raked seating gives unusual ceremony angles from the rear) and reception in the Rotunda.

Don't see your venue here? We've shot dozens more — just ask.

Honest Answers · Plate XVIII

Washington, D.C. Wedding Photography FAQ

The questions our couples ask before they book — answered straight.

  • How many photos do we get?

Edition I delivers 400+ edited images. Edition II is 600+. Edition III is 800+. We don't pad galleries with ten near-identical frames of the same moment — every image is hand-selected and color-graded.
  • Can we bundle photo and video?

Yes — and it's the most popular booking. Bundle any two of our wedding services (Video + Photo, Photo + Content, or all three) and we knock 10% off your full package. Same studio, same creative direction, one team on the day.
  • Do you photograph weddings outside D.C.?

Yes. We regularly shoot across Maryland and Virginia (Annapolis, Middleburg, the Eastern Shore, and Charlottesville) at no travel charge inside the DMV. For weddings further afield, we add travel as a flat line item — never a marked-up surprise.
  • What's your style, in one sentence?

Editorial and lifestyle — candid first, with a guiding hand when you want one. We document the day as it actually unfolds, and we'll step in to direct when it helps: posing through portraits, family formals, getting you settled at golden hour. Tell us how involved you'd like us to be — some couples want zero direction, others want a quiet co-pilot — and we'll match it.
  • When do we get our photos?

We generally deliver the full gallery within 3–4 weeks of your wedding.
