Wedding Weekender and The Kit are close to the same product: a Sony 4K camcorder shipped a few days before the wedding, filmed by your guests, sent back, and cut into a short film. The cameras, cards, hours, film lengths and rental window match almost line for line, and on October 20, 2026 the prices did too. What separates them is what else is in the box, who edits the film, how the footage comes back, and where they ship.
Our bias, stated up front
We make The Kit, so we are the least neutral people who could write this. Here is how we have tried to make it fair anyway. Everything about Wedding Weekender below comes from its own website as we read it on October 20, 2026, and nothing else. Where its pages do not mention something, we say "not listed", not "does not have", because a page leaving something out is not proof the box does. We say where theirs is the better choice. And because companies change their packages, check both sites before you book.
The detail most comparisons would miss: the camera is the same
If you have seen Wedding Weekender on Shark Tank or on social media and then found us, you may have noticed the packages look alike. They do. Both one-camera kits have a Sony 4K camcorder, a 256GB card for up to eight hours of footage, three batteries and a 3 to 5 minute film. Both two-camera kits double that and make a 5 to 7 minute film. Both arrive three to four days before the wedding and go back within about 72 hours.
So the camera is not the decision. Footage from one Sony 4K camcorder looks much like footage from another. The decision is in four places: what else you can film with, how the sound is recorded, who turns eight hours of guest footage into a few minutes worth rewatching, and the logistics around your date.

The two-camera kits follow the same pattern. Wedding Weekender's Deluxe and our Double both have two camcorders, two 256GB cards for up to 16 hours, six batteries and a 5 to 7 minute film. Ours adds two LED lights and two clip-on microphones in the box. On October 20, 2026 their Core and Deluxe were listed at the same prices as The Single at $729 and The Double at $989, so price does not decide this one either.
Where Wedding Weekender is the better choice
- Your wedding is in Canada or the U.K. They list both. We ship within the lower 48 states and Washington, DC only, so we cannot reach you, or a wedding in Alaska or Hawaii.
- You want the raw footage quickly. Their site promises organized raw footage within two to three weeks of the camcorder reaching them, ahead of the edited video. Ours arrives all at once with the film, three to six weeks after the wedding. If watching the unedited clips soon matters to you, theirs gets them to you first.
- You want a camcorder at the bachelor or bachelorette party too. They sell packages for that. We do not, beyond adding days to the rental window.
- You like a video walkthrough. Their camcorder carries a QR code to an online tutorial. Ours relies on plain-English labels on the buttons and a printed quick-start card.
Where The Kit is the better choice
- Your reception or ceremony is dim. Every kit of ours has an LED fill light, charged and ready. Camcorders struggle most in candlelit rooms and late on the dance floor, which is where a lot of the best moments are. A light is not listed in Wedding Weekender's packages.
- You want to hear the vows and the toasts. A camcorder held by a guest three rows back records the room: the shuffling, the coughing, the air conditioning. Our two-camera kits include two clip-on microphones, one for the officiant and one for a partner, and the Single can add them. Our post on wedding ceremony audio explains why sound decides whether a wedding film gets rewatched.
- You care who makes the edit. Guest footage is the raw material; the edit is the product. Ours is cut by the same editors who cut the films we shoot with our own crews, with the same color and music, so you can judge the edit before you book by watching our wedding films and the Kit films on the Kit page.
- You want a say in the music. After the wedding, we ask what your film should sound like. You can send songs from Musicbed, a licensed music library, or describe the feel and let us choose. Licensed music matters if you want to post the film without it being muted; here is why.
- You want more than camcorders. The Full House adds a screen-free Camp Snap camera made to be passed around the room, and The Everything adds a tall tripod for a steady ceremony shot and a gallery where guests upload their phone photos and video messages, folded into your film. Neither has an equivalent in Wedding Weekender's two packages.
- You might want a crewed film after all. If you later book one of our filmed collections, what you paid for the Kit counts toward it in full.
Questions to ask either company before you book
- Is a microphone in the box, and if not, can one be added?
- Is there a light for a dim ceremony or reception?
- Who edits the film, and can we see films they cut from guest footage?
- Can we choose the music, and is it licensed?
- When does the camera arrive, when must it go back, and where do we drop it off?
- What happens if the camera is damaged or lost, and is there a damage waiver? Ours offers one at checkout.
- Do the raw clips come back, all of them, and when?
Our guide to renting a camcorder for your wedding goes through each of these, and why the calendar around your date matters more than the camera.
What we would tell a friend
Both companies will put a good camcorder in your guests' hands. If your wedding is outside our shipping area, or you want the raw clips first or a bachelorette camcorder, book Wedding Weekender. If your rooms are dim, if you want to hear the vows, or if you want the film cut by a wedding film studio, book The Kit. Then, whichever you choose, read how to get your guests to actually use the camcorder, because the best rental in the world films nothing from a table.
Common questions
Is Wedding Weekender worth it?
For many couples, yes. It is a well-built version of a good idea: a 4K camcorder your guests pass around, then a professionally edited film. We sell the same idea, so we are not neutral. The useful comparison is not the camera, which is close to identical, but what else is in the box and who cuts the film.
What is the difference between Wedding Weekender and The Kit?
The cameras, card sizes, footage hours, film lengths, rental window and arrival timing are almost the same. On October 20, 2026 their two packages also cost what our Single and Double cost. The differences: every kit of ours has an LED fill light, our two-camera kits include two clip-on microphones, our films are cut by the editors who cut our crewed wedding films, and the film and raw footage arrive together. Theirs ships to Canada and the U.K., delivers raw footage sooner and has bachelor and bachelorette packages.
Which wedding camcorder rental includes a microphone?
Ours does from the Double up: two clip-on microphones for the vows and the toasts. For the Single they are an add-on. On October 20, 2026, Wedding Weekender's package lists did not mention a microphone, so ask them directly. Any camcorder across a room hears the room more than the vows.
Can you rent a wedding camcorder outside the United States?
Wedding Weekender lists Canada and the U.K. as well as the U.S. Ours ships within the lower 48 states and Washington, DC only, so if your wedding is in Canada, the U.K., Alaska or Hawaii, ours is not an option.
How long does it take to get the video back from a camcorder rental?
Ours sends the edited film and every raw clip together, three to six weeks after the wedding. Wedding Weekender's site says raw footage comes within two to three weeks of the camcorder reaching them, and the edited video several weeks after that.
