At least ten companies will now mail you a camera for your wedding, let your guests film, and cut the footage into a film. They are not interchangeable. The camera each one sends decides how your film will look before anyone edits a frame, so start there: a modern camcorder, a pocket gimbal camera, or a deliberately old camcorder. Then compare the edit, the sound, the raw footage and the timing, because those differ far more than the prices do.
Our bias, stated up front
We make The Kit, one of the ten, so we are not neutral. Here is how we tried to be fair anyway. Everything below about another company comes from that company's own website as we read it on October 27, 2026, and nothing else: no reviews, no forum posts, no guesses. Where a site does not mention something, we say "not listed", which is not the same as "does not have". We print none of their prices, because prices change and they are theirs to state. We say plainly where another company is the better choice. And because packages change, check each company's own site before you book.
The detail most comparisons miss: the camera decides the look
Couples usually compare these kits by price and by the length of the edited film. Both matter less than the camera in the box, because the camera sets the look of everything your guests shoot, and no edit can change it afterward. The ten fall into three groups.
- Modern camcorders. Wedding Weekender, Luv Film Co and our Kit send Sony 4K camcorders. Press Record Co sends a Sony camcorder, and Blue Haven Tapes a 4K camcorder it does not name. The picture is clean and sharp, with the handheld feel that comes from guests filming.
- Pocket gimbal cameras. Recorderly and Edit Your Wedding send DJI Pocket cameras: small, light and self-stabilizing. The footage is smoother than a handheld camcorder's, which suits a dance floor, and it looks more like a modern travel video than a home movie.
- Deliberately old camcorders. Hello Camcorder sends a standard-definition camcorder "from the early to mid-2000s", and Handheld Studio a retro camcorder whose footage it describes as "grainy, nostalgic". The softness is the point: it looks like the home videos many of us grew up with. It will not look sharp on a big television, and it is not meant to.
Two companies reach across the groups. YOUfilm Weddings sends one Sony camcorder in its smaller packages, or a box of four mixed cameras (camcorders, Flip cameras and a digital Super 8) in its largest. Blue Haven Tapes also sells a kit with a real Super 8 film camera, which shoots actual film rather than imitating it. If that look is the one you want, read our real math on Super 8 at a wedding first.
So choose the look first. Watch a sample film from each group, notice which one you would still want to watch in twenty years, and compare only within that group. Weighing a deliberately soft 2000s camcorder against a 4K one on price is weighing two different products.
The ten, by the camera they send

| Recorderly | DJI Osmo Pocket 3, two or four | Pocket gimbal |
| Edit Your Wedding | DJI Pocket camera | Pocket gimbal |
| Hello Camcorder | A 2000s standard-definition camcorder | Old camcorder |
| Handheld Studio | A retro camcorder, one or two | Old camcorder |
| YOUfilm Weddings | One Sony camcorder, or four mixed cameras | Modern, or mixed |
What comes back: the edit and the raw footage
Two things to check here. First, whether an edit is included at all: two companies sell a package with no highlight film, only your footage as one uncut video. That is a fine product if you want it, but it is a different one. Second, whether you get every clip your guests shot, and how.
| Company | Edited film | Raw footage |
|---|---|---|
| Wedding Weekender | 3 to 5 minutes, or 5 to 7 with two cameras | Organized, all of it |
| Luv Film Co | 5 to 7 minutes with two cameras | Every clip |
| Press Record Co | None on the Basic; 3 to 4 minutes, or 4 to 5 with two cameras | All of it, plus one uncut video |
| Blue Haven Tapes | 2 minutes, or 3 with two cameras | Organized, all of it |
| The Kit (ours) | 3 to 5 minutes, or 5 to 7 with two cameras | Every clip, in order, with the film |
| Recorderly | Length not listed; two rounds of changes | An add-on, on a drive |
| Edit Your Wedding | A film and an Instagram Reel | Not listed on its home page |
| Hello Camcorder | 2 to 3 minutes | All of it, by download link |
| Handheld Studio | 2 to 3 minutes, set to your songs | Sorted by event, mistakes cut |
| YOUfilm Weddings | None on the Home Movie; 3 to 5 minutes; a 20-minute cut too with the Guestbox | Every clip, as one uncut movie |
Sound and light: where most of the difference hides
A guest filming from where they stand records the room: the band, the chatter, the air conditioning. The vows and the toasts are quiet by comparison. That is why microphones matter more than the camera's resolution, and why our post on wedding ceremony audio is the one we send couples first.
Of the ten, three list clip-on microphones. Recorderly includes a wireless clip-on mic with each camera. Edit Your Wedding offers wireless mics with its DIY Plus option. Our two-camera kits include two clip-on mics, one for the officiant and one for a partner, and the Single can add them. Wedding Weekender describes a mic built into its camcorder, and Handheld Studio advises guests to speak "loud and close". The rest do not list a microphone.
Light is the other quiet difference. Receptions are dim, and dim is where camcorders struggle. Of the pages we read, ours is the only one that lists a light in the box: an LED fill light with every kit. Recorderly says its camera "sees in the dark", and Edit Your Wedding that its camera is "great in low light".
Timing: the rental window and how fast it comes back
| Company | Rental window | Back to you |
|---|---|---|
| Wedding Weekender | 7 days | Raw footage a couple of weeks after, then the film |
| Luv Film Co | Not listed | The film in 2 to 3 weeks |
| Press Record Co | 7 days | Raw footage within 48 hours of its return; the film in 2 to 3 weeks |
| Blue Haven Tapes | The wedding weekend, or 14 days added | 2 to 3 weeks |
| The Kit (ours) | 7 days, and more can be added | The film and every clip, 3 to 6 weeks after the wedding |
| Recorderly | Not listed; it arrives five days before | A three or four week edit |
| Edit Your Wedding | Not listed on its home page | Not listed on its home page |
| Hello Camcorder | 7 days | Not listed on its home page |
| Handheld Studio | 7 or 14 days | Within two weeks of the camera reaching them |
| YOUfilm Weddings | 3 days | 2 to 3 weeks |
A seven-day window covers a rehearsal dinner and a send-off brunch as well as the wedding; three days is tighter. If your celebration runs longer, check that before anything else. Our post on renting a camcorder for your wedding walks through the calendar questions: arrival, the return during your honeymoon, and who is at home to sign for the box.
Where another company is the better choice
- You want the 2000s home-video look. Hello Camcorder and Handheld Studio send old-style camcorders on purpose. Ours is a modern 4K camera, and no edit can make it look like 2004. Our post on the camcorder wedding video explains the difference between the look and the camera.
- You want real film. Blue Haven Tapes sells a Super 8 kit that shoots actual film. We do not.
- You want it back quickly. Handheld Studio says two weeks from the camera reaching them, Press Record Co raw footage within 48 hours of its return, and several others two to three weeks. Ours takes three to six weeks.
- You only want the footage, not an edit. Press Record Co's Basic and YOUfilm Weddings' Home Movie Collection send the camera and give back your footage as one uncut video. Every kit of ours includes an edit, and costs more for that reason.
- Your wedding is in Canada or the U.K. Wedding Weekender lists both. We ship within the lower 48 states and Washington, DC only.
- You want a microphone with every camera. Recorderly includes a clip-on mic with each one, including its two-camera kit.
- You want a camera at the bachelorette party too. Wedding Weekender, Luv Film Co, Recorderly and Handheld Studio all sell for bachelorette parties. We do not, beyond adding days to the rental window.
Where The Kit is the better choice
- Your reception or ceremony is dim. Every kit has an LED fill light, charged and ready, for the candlelit room and the late dance floor.
- You want to hear the vows and the toasts. The Double includes two clip-on microphones; the Single can add them.
- You care who makes the edit. Ours is cut by the same editors who cut the films we shoot with our own crews, with the same color and music. Judge the edit before you book by watching our wedding films.
- You want a say in the music. After the wedding, you can choose songs from Musicbed, a licensed library, or describe the feel and let us choose. Licensed music is what lets you post the film without it being muted; here is why.
- You want every clip back, in order. The raw footage arrives with the film, every clip from every camera in the order it was shot.
The Single is $729, with one camera and the light. The Double is $989, with two cameras, two lights and the two microphones. We compared Wedding Weekender with The Kit in more detail in a side-by-side of the two.
How to choose in five minutes
- Pick the look. Watch one sample film from a modern camcorder, one from a pocket gimbal and one from an old camcorder. Keep the group you liked.
- Decide whether you need an edit. If you only want the footage, two companies sell exactly that. If you want a film, compare edit lengths and who cuts them.
- Decide about sound. If hearing the vows matters, keep only the kits that list clip-on microphones, or plan to add them.
- Check the dates. When the camera arrives, how many days you keep it, and how you send it back during the week after your wedding.
- Check where it ships. Most ship within the U.S. only; one lists Canada and the U.K.
Whichever you choose, the camera only works if guests use it. Our guide to getting guests to use the wedding camcorder applies to all ten.
Common questions
What is the best wedding camcorder rental company?
It depends on the look you want more than on the company. For a clean, modern picture, Wedding Weekender, Luv Film Co, Press Record Co, Blue Haven Tapes and our Kit send modern camcorders. For smooth, steady footage, Recorderly and Edit Your Wedding send DJI Pocket cameras. For a soft, 2000s home-video look, Hello Camcorder and Handheld Studio send old-style camcorders on purpose. Choose the look first, then compare the edit, the sound and the timing within that group.
Which wedding camcorder rentals include microphones?
Of the ten we compared on October 27, 2026, three list clip-on microphones: Recorderly includes one with each camera, Edit Your Wedding offers wireless mics with its DIY Plus option, and our two-camera kits include two clip-on mics, which the Single can add. Wedding Weekender describes a mic built into its camcorder. A clip-on mic on the officiant is what makes the vows easy to hear.
Which camcorder rental sends the footage back fastest?
Handheld Studio says within two weeks of the camera reaching them, and Press Record Co says raw footage within 48 hours of its return. Blue Haven Tapes, Luv Film Co and YOUfilm Weddings say two to three weeks. Ours sends the edited film and every raw clip together, three to six weeks after the wedding.
Can I rent a wedding camcorder without paying for editing?
Yes. Press Record Co's Basic package and YOUfilm Weddings' Home Movie Collection send a camcorder and return your footage as one uncut video, with no highlight film. Every kit of ours includes an edit. Recorderly sells the reverse: editing only, for footage you upload yourself, with no camera.
Do wedding camcorder rentals ship outside the United States?
Wedding Weekender lists Canada and the U.K. as well as the U.S. Hello Camcorder ships within the U.S. only for now. Ours ships within the lower 48 states and Washington, DC. Several others say they ship nationwide within the U.S., so if your wedding is abroad, ask them directly.
